6 Ways To Relieve Pain Naturally

Feeling stiff or sore after a workout is all too common. Engaging in exercise or sports doesn't have to be a pain, however! Follow these easy tips to have fun, stay active and pain free.

1. Stretch

So many of us don't take the time to stretch before and after an activity. Muscles get tight and sore when they aren't warmed up or cooled down. Take the time to stretch and save yourself from soreness. YouTube has thousands of free videos to help you warm up and cool down.

2. Drink Water

Getting plenty of water helps your body function properly. Muscle cramps can be a sign of dehydration. Keep your water bottle nearby during workouts. If you need a little pick me up, add a little lemon, fresh mint, strawberries or cucumbers to your water. Cucumbers and mint water is extremely refreshing!

3. Tried and True Epsom Salt

When you get sore achy muscles, one of the best ways to relax is a bath with Epsom salt. Add about 2 cups of salt per bath and soak for about 15-20 minutes. It will melt many of your aches away and reduce swelling. There are even some Epsom salts now with added fragrances like eucalyptus or lavender that make your bath even more relaxing.

4. Natural Remedies for Pain

There are a number of natural herbal remedies and creams for pain. One favorite is tiger balm ointment. Rub it on sore muscles as directed and it works almost immediately. Arnica oil is also quite popular. Arnica is a plant from the daisy family. White willow bark can be taken internally and is similar to aspirin. Creams or ointments with cayenne or eucalyptus can also offer natural pain relief.

5. Don't Overdo It

Easier said than done for some of us, but overdoing it with sports can actually happen quite easily. You're out on the field having fun and then you pay for it later. It's important to know one's limits. You might try varying your activities or using a timer if that helps stop you before you go too far.

8. Get Smart

Have you considered your sports or exercise and how you might improve your form? There's often a better more efficient way to exercise. If you are getting too sore or experiencing too much pain try watching videos online to make sure you are exercising correctly. Check out library books on sports. Get a personal trainer, if even for a one time class.

There are many natural ways to relieve pain. One doesn't have to always resort to medications. Instead, be smart about how you play sports or exercise. Eat well and get plenty of rest. Don't forget to stretch and know when to stop.
